Paul E. Griffiths, PhD

An undergraduate at Cambridge, Paul did doctoral research in the Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University, graduating in 1989. A philosopher of science with a focus on psychology and biology, his publications include What Emotions Really Are: The Problem of Psychological Categories (Chicago, 1997) and Sex and Death: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Biology (with Kim Sterelny, Chicago 1999). He was Professor of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh before returning to Australia in 2004 as an ARC Federation Fellow to set up the Biohumanities Project.

He is a member of the Australian Health Ethics Committee, Affiliate Professorial Research Fellow in UQ's Institute for Molecular Bioscience, and annual Visiting Professor in the ESRC Centre for Genomics in Society at the University of Exeter. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.
