Marco Iacoboni, MD, PhD

Dr. Iacoboni is a neurologist and neuroscientist originally from Italy. Today he is at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, where he serves on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and is Director of the Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation laboratory of the Ahmanson-Lovelace Brain Mapping Center. Iacoboni's lab uses fMRI and TMS to study the human mirror neuron system and its role in imitation, empathy, and social understanding.

Iacoboni's research attracts wide media attention, including articles and features in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, The Economist, and Newsweek. He has also appeared on CBS Studio 2, NBC Nightly News, ABC Good Morning America, in CBS Early Show, CBS Evening News, and PBS NOVA Science NOW, and on NPR Morning Edition and KCBC Canada’s As It Happens, among other TV and radio programs. Dr. Iacoboni is currently writing a book on mirror neurons, tentatively entitled Mirroring People, to be published by Farrar, Straus, & Giroux.
