Mardi Horowitz, M.D.Mardi J. Horowitz, M.D. is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco. He is the recipient of various awards and research grants, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies for his work on defining psychological stress symptoms, diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder, and research involving its treatment. Dr. Horowitz's research has been supported by the National Institute of Mental Health and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He has developed methods for the study of stress, personality, and conscious and unconscious mental processes. The Impact of Events Scale developed by he and his research colleagues is an international standard in trauma research, and they have pioneered methods for quantitative assessment of emotionality, defensiveness, and topical expression in analysis of videotapes and transcripts. His book Stress Response Syndromes is now in its fourth edition, and his new book, Treatment of Stress Response Syndromes will be published in September 2002. He is also the author of Cognitive Psychodynamics: from Conflict to Character and editor of Essential Papers on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Person Schemas and Maladaptive Interpersonal Patterns. |
