Mark S. Micale, PhD

Mark S. Micale, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of History and the History of Medicine at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. He is a former member of the Harvard Society of Fellows, and a recipient of several other grants and honors including a University Research Fellowship from the University of Manchester, two grants in the history of medicine from NIH, and a research grant from the Center for Advanced Studies at the University of Illinois.

His publications include Approaching Hysteria: Disease and Its Interpretations (1995); Discovering the History of Psychiatry, with Roy Porter (1994), Beyond the Unconscious (1993), and Traumatic Pasts: History, Psychiatry, and Trauma in the Modern Age, 1870-1914, with Paul Lerner (2001).
